"A well kept cemetery on the Old Kyle Road approximately a mile from the Wimberley Square...was originally part of a 1280  tract of land patented to Amasa Turner.

Prior to 1876 most residents of the area buried their loved ones near their homes in small family burial grounds.  There are many of these small family plots in the Wimberley area.  Melissa Wimberley, five-years-old daughter of Pleasant and Amanda Wimberley, was one of the first burial in the cemetery in October of 1876.  At that time the cemetery was simply part of the church property and land for a cemetery had not been set aside.

In 1885, John Henry Saunders and his wife, Callie Williamson Saunders, purchased twenty acres of land from William C. Smith from which they later set aside a one acre tract for the purpose of a cemetery.  This acre of land surrounded the first graves already on the land.

Over the years the cemetery grew and in 1922, when Mr. John R. Dobie sold land he had acquired from John H. Saunders, he aside 'Two acres now being used as cemetery'.  Then in 1947, for the sum of $5.00, the widow and heirs of James F. Dobie conveyed a tract of land to the cemetery Association's Trustees of approximately two-thirds of an acre.

Since 1947, the Wimberley Cemetery has continued to expand.  The Wimberley Cemetery Association purchased two more sections of property that have completed the Cemetery's growth from the Old Kyle Road to the entrance of Blue Hole.  The cemetery is close to capacity of having available lots.

Persons who are assigned lots in the cemetery are members of the Association.  In 2007, the Trustees and Officers began an effort to locate members who purchased lots in the past and may be interested in returning them.  Without space available, returned lots will be the only source of further membership assignments.
